Michael Spyres as Tristan in Tristan und Isolde at the Metropolitan Opera

Michael Spyres makes his role debut as Tristan in a new production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde at the Metropolitan Opera, staged by Yuval Sharon. The production marks one of the season’s most high-profile international operatic events and also celebrates Lise Davidsen’s Met debut as Isolde, as well as Yannick Nezet-Seguin’s first time conducting Tristan und Isolde at the house. The cast is completed by Ekaterina Gubanova as Brangäne, Tomasz Konieczny as Kurwenal, and Ryan Speedo Green as King Marke. The performances take place on March 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, and 29, as well as April 2. The March 21 performance will be broadcast live in cinemas worldwide.

The Missourian baritenor made his Wagner debut as Lohengrin at the Opéra national du Rhin in 2024, where Le Monde praised him for “soaring to the firmament of Wagner heaven.” That same year, he made his Bayreuth Festival debut as Siegmund in Die Walküre, returning in 2025 for his first Stolzing in the Festival’s opening production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, while also reprising Siegmund to critical acclaim.
