Juan Sancho stars as Orphée in Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice (Paris 1774) in Cracow

On December 4, 2025, Juan Sancho sings the title role in Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice (Paris 1774) at the Filharmonia Krakowska. Presented by Capella Cracoviensis as part of the “Muzyczne Mosty” project, the concert performance brings Gluck’s groundbreaking reform opera to life on historical instruments under the direction of Camille Delaforge.
Sancho leads the cast as Orphée, joined by Dorota Szczepańska as Eurydice and Michalina Bienkiewicz as L’Amour. Gluck’s Paris version is the French revision of his earlier Italian Orfeo ed Euridice. Rewritten to suit Parisian tastes, the score expands the ballet music and introduces new virtuosic writing for the tenor Orphée, replacing the original castrato role.
The Sevillian tenor received outstanding reviews for his portrayal of the Greek tragic hero in the staged performances at Theater Orchester Biel Solothurn in 2023.
