Federico Fiorio stars as Sultan Darío in the Austrian premiere of the genderbending operetta Benamor. Composed by Pablo Luna in 1923, Benamor is a witty Spanish work full of disguises, comic twists, and irresistible rhythms that blend zarzuela with the shimmy and foxtrot. The new production is directed by Christof Loy and conducted by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, and also features Marina Monzó in the title role. Performances are scheduled at Theater an der Wien on January 23, 25, 27, and 29, and February 1, 3, 5, and 7, 2026. The Verona-born singer is one of the most accomplished and sought-after male sopranos of our time, widely praised for his performances in Baroque and Classical repertoire.
