Ricarda Merbeth brings her highly acclaimed Elektra to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for three performances of Richard Strauss’s opera on November 6, 14, and 17. Juraj Valčuha conducts Kirsten Harms’s staging. Okka von der Damerau sings Klytämnestra, Flurina Stucki is Chrysothemis, Tobias Kehrer is Orest, and Michael J. Scott is Aegisth.
Ricarda Merbeth first sang the title role at Teatro alla Scala in November 2018, in Patrice Chéreau’s production under Christoph von Dohnányi. Her subsequent Elektra performances have taken her to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Opéra national du Capitole in Toulouse, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, and the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.
At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, audiences have heard Ricarda Merbeth in a wide range of Wagner and Strauss roles: Senta in “Der fliegende Holländer,” Elsa in “Lohengrin,” Brünnhilde and Gutrune in the “Ring,” Venus and Elisabeth in “Tannhäuser,” Helena in “Die ägyptische Helena,” and Isolde in “Tristan und Isolde.” She has also sung the title role in Puccini’s “Turandot” at the house.
