Michael Spyres opens the 2026/27 season of the Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg

Michael Spyres launches a packed 2026/27 season that will take him to many of the world’s leading opera houses and concert halls, beginning with two concerts at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg on September 14 and 15, which also open the company’s new season.

Joined by the Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg under conductor Matthew Straw, Michael Spyres explores the Romantic and post-Romantic repertoire in a program spanning Wagner, Bizet, Massenet, Korngold and Richard Strauss. Among the highlights are Don José’s “La fleur que tu m’avais jetée” from “Carmen” and “Werther”’s “Pourquoi me réveiller?”, alongside excerpts from Wagner and Richard Strauss.

The concerts mark Michael Spyres’ return to the Opéra national du Rhin, where he gave a recital in 2019 and, most recently, made his role debut as Wagner’s Lohengrin in 2024.
