Michael Spyres wins the 2026 Austrian Music Theatre Awards

The winners of the 2026 Austrian Music Theatre Awards have been announced!

Congratulations to Michael Spyres, who has won the award for Best Male Leading Role for his acclaimed portrayal of Giovanni Pierluigi Palestrina in Pfitzner’s “Palestrina” at the Wiener Staatsoper. Michael Spyres made his role debut in Herbert Wernicke’s production in December 2024, under the baton of Christian Thielemann.
