A double assignment at the Wiener Staatsoper: Michael Spyres moves between bel canto and Strauss in a packed run of performances.
On May 5, 7, and 11, 2026, he appears as Nemorino in Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in Otto Schenk’s classic production, conducted by Gianluca Capuano, alongside Pretty Yende (Adina), Clemens Unterreiner (Belcore), and Ambrogio Maestri (Dulcamara).
Between these performances, Michael Spyres appears as the Italian Singer in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, in another Otto Schenk staging conducted by Alexander Soddy, with Camilla Nylund (Marschallin), Samantha Hankey (Octavian), Günther Groissböck (Baron Ochs), and Nikola Hillebrand (Sophie). Performances take place on May 9, 12, 15, and 18.
Michael Spyres first took on Nemorino at the Gran Teatre del Liceu last fall.
