Justin Kangmin Kim as Despina in “Così fan tutte” at the Hamburg State Opera

Kangmin Justin Kim begins his season at the Hamburg State Opera, reprising the role of Despina in Mozart’s “Così fan tutte”. Herbert Fritsch’s production is conducted by Omer Meir Wellberg and Keren Kagarlitsky, with Olga Kulchynska as Fiordiligi, Jonah Hoskins as Ferrando, Simone McIntosh as Dorabella, Andrew Hamilton as Guglielmo, and Chao Deng as Don Alfonso. Performances are scheduled for October 10, 19, 22, and 30.

The Korean-born, Chicago-raised countertenor made his debut at the Hamburg State Opera in May 2024, returned as Despina the following month, and appeared in June 2025 in the world premiere of Unsuk Chin’s “Die Dunkle Seite des Mondes”.
